Former Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser appears to have registered a new UK company that it’s believed could be a brand new game development studio called Absurd Ventures in Games.

As spotted by users on the GTA Forums (and reported by Video Games Chronicle) the UK company was officially incorporated last week. As per the listing on UK company registry Companies House, the new venture’s business is described as “ready-made interactive leisure and entertainment software development.” Houser himself is listed as the company’s Director as well as a Producer and Creative Director.

VGC also note, however, that a separate company was also registered in the US known as Absurd Ventures LLC. Based in Delaware, Texas this company is named as the owner of the shares of the UK arm, and it could be that the “in Games” moniker means it could just be one division of a broader company. For now, there’s not much more to go on aside from that.

Dan Houser co-founded Rockstar back in 1998 alongside his brother Sam Houser, Terry Donovan and Jamie King. He was the head writer on many Rockstar games, including every Grand Theft Auto game from the London 1969 expansion onwards, Bully, both Red Dead Redemption games and L.A. Noire to name but a few.

He departed Rockstar in March of last year, with parent company Take Two saying at the time he had taken an “extended break” since finishing work on Red Dead Redemption 2 back in 2018. They said in a statement “We are extremely grateful for his contributions. Rockstar Games has built some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful game worlds, a global community of passionate fans and an incredibly talented team, which remains focused on current and future projects”

We’ll keep an ear to the ground, and if we hear more from what might be Dan Houser’s new studio, we’ll let you know.
